Ramón Morillas beats world altitude record
Monday, September 15th, 2008World champion, Ramon Morillas, has beaten 3 possible records in 1 flight (altitude; time to climb to 3,000 m; time to climb to 6,000 m).
Morillas has always had great paramotoring ambitions, and the three high altitude flights he carried out during the last week of August and first days of September also served as part of his preparation to fly to the top of an 8,000 m giant in Pakistan.
The record flight took place from sea level on 2 September, from Motril beach in Granada. Flying an Advance Omega 7 with a PAP VR 200 with the air filter removed to retain power at altitude, Ramon passed 3,000 m after 25 minutes and 40 seconds, and 6,000 m after 1 hour 11 minutes. His maximum height of 6,740 m was reached in less than 2 hours. The motor was still fine, but, flying without oxygen, Ramon was aware that he had spent a while above 6,000 m and was feeling the effects of altitude, so decided to head down.
Congratulations Ramon, and good luck in Pakistan.
