Mathieu Rouanet in Tenerife

We’re currently in Tenerife reporting on this year’s Flypa event, based in Los Realjos at the northern end of the island. For the last few days the skies have been full of gliders. As well as free fliers and a host of acro stars there has been a lot of paramotoring going on. Ramon Morillas has come here after his world record flight which ended on Lanzarote. Also on hand is Mathieu Rouanet who has been wowing the onlookers with his acrobatic flying, skimming the waves at Socoro beach only time will tell if he remains dry.

GILO CARDOZO FLIES HIS PARAJET TO 20,000′

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

Gilo Cardozo

This morning, Gilo Cardozo flew his Parajet paramotor, powered by a supercharged Wankel rotary engine, to just over 20,000′ in sunny Wiltshire.
Gilo was going through some last minute testing and tweaking of his engine before departing for Nepal, for his attempt to fly over Mount Everest.
He reports an excellent climb rate, without having to use full throttle, and was still climbing fast at 20,000′ when he encountered adverse weather conditions and some ice.
Gilo is confident to have the necessary power to attack Mount Everest, with his friend Bear Grylls, both flying Parajet Wankel engines.
Best of luck to both of them in their amazing daring adventure.

RAMON MORILLAS READY TO GO

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

Monday 23 of April could be the date of the new world record that the Spanish pilot Ramon Morillas plans to set: a flight of 1350 km over the sea, from the south of Spain to the Canary island of Tenerife! The stormy weather in the area has delayed the departure date giving Ramon some more days to train and test the gear at the beach in Tarifa (south of Spain). The forecasts are better for the end of this week, so Monday is the most probable day for achieving the ambitious feat, which will need strong north-east wind and clear skies along the route to be successful. Ramon, holder of 4 certified world records would so beat his own record of distance (950km) done last year, only this time virtually all the flight would go by over the Atlantic Ocean.

Check out the amazing shot of Pascal flying in downtown Daejon in our launch issue. During their visit they were invited to tour an orphange which runs the ‘art for rice’ scheme to raise money. Pascal has put together a short movie of their visit. Once you’ve watched it take some time to head over to www.artforrice.org and help out the cause.
