BMAA Suspend Training Scheme
The BMAA, who along with the BHPA, have up to now offered paramotor training in the UK have taken the decision to suspend their training scheme with immediate effect.
During 2007 the organisation undertook a review of foot launch training which highlighted a number of problems and deficiencies in the scheme and the BMAA invited instructors to get involved in a reorganisation of the system. The review also showed the potentially high liability the system put upon the BMAA and they sought to insure themselves against this.
Having made no progress in regenerating the training system over the seven months since the review the BMAA have been informed by their insurers they will not be able to continue their cover without the planned safeguards being put in place. With this loss of liabilty insurance the BMAA council have been unable to continue to approve a Foot Launched Microlight training system.
The system is suspended with immediate effect, and no further FLM pilot or instructor ratings will be issued. This leaves the BHPA as the only body in the UK offering such ratings. If you are about to start training in the UK or abroad with a BMAA instructor you should check with them as this rating is now null and void.
